Death of a Crocodile Hunter
Its been a week or more since i read about the accidental death of Steve Irwin, the one and the only crocodile hunter and still i am feeling shocked and saddened by the news...
In many ways, i feel a great deal of similarity between Steve and all those adventurous souls that have died trying to conquer Mt.Everest...
But I also feel that his death might also act as a warning sign for all those adventuring souls that have the thirst to live life by the edge. here is a snippet from an article that expressed what i really feel about Steve's unfortunate death...
"Irwin's death should be a wake-up call to every person who takes part in the outdoors experience, no matter what your age, background or where your passions take you.
It should be a reminder: In the great outdoors, the only thing that counts is how an adventure makes you feel inside. That is why I climb
mountains. In the past week, I hiked to the top of 9,025-foot Mount Eddy twice, not because it is an achievement, but because it is
euphoric to make the summit and get hit all at once by the world-class view. There aren't many things that make me feel like this.
But for some people, it is instead the desire for greatness that propels them on adventures. I call it the hero syndrome. To stand out,
they dare the Grim Reaper, over and over. I've seen it with snowboard jumpers, kayakers, canyoneers, rock climbers, mountain bikers, divers
and others -- they get out on the edge with no wiggle room for a mistake.
"If you live on the edge," Jennings once said on a late New Year's Eve at Clear Lake, "you'll be subject to fall." And he had more than a few.
